The Pioneer Memorial Museum ~ Main Floor

The main floor of the museum provides an insight into the lives of prominent Mormon pioneers including Brigham Young, Eliza R. Snow, Willard Richards, Hilda Erickson (the longest living pioneer who died in 1968), Heber C. Kimball and more.  The curtain in the center is called the Return of the Victorious Fleet, and it was used in the Salt Lake Theatre. Pioneer Memorial Museum was built to resemble the Theatre, which was torn down in 1929. There is a room devoted to artifacts from the Salt Lake Theatre. Notice that the upper floor balconies resemble boxed seats of a theater. Don’t miss the stained glass window in the Lecture Room that was commissioned for the building as a tribute to pioneer women. In addition, the main floor has a case of Native American artifacts, teapots, pianos and organs, pocket watches, quilts, and more. The back room on the floor (known as the History Department) contains cases of important theological books, featuring a Braille Bible.

The Daughters of Utah Pioneers maintain numerous satellite museums around the state of Utah and beyond. Click here for a list of other DUP (satellite) Museums.
